Director of Choirs
James Kritikos is in his fifth year as the Head Choir Director at Klein Oak High School. Prior to his appointment at Klein Oak, Mr. Kritikos was the first director at Canyon Lake High School in San Antonio for eight years. From the school's inaugural year until his departure for Klein Oak, Mr. Kritikos grew the choir program from 15 brave students to over 160 students enrolled in his classes, building the program from the ground up. Mr. Kritikos' choirs have consistently received sweepstakes at UIL Concert and Sightreading Contests, and many of his students have placed and participated in the TMEA All-State Choir. Choirs under his direction have toured all across the country, from singing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, to performing at Disneyland in Los Angeles, CA. Mr. Kritikos is also an avid performer, singing competitively with barbershop quartets in Montreal, Canada, Louisville, KY and Salt Lake City, Utah.
As a professional director outside of school, James specializes in directing men's barbershop choirs, which has taken him to direct across the southwest. Two of his choirs on two separate occasions had the opportunity to perform on stage with the rock group, Foreigner!
Mr. Kritikos has a Bachelor’s of Music Education from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where he studied with Dr. Kenneth Fulton. Mr. Kritikos is a member of American Choral Directors Association,Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Music Adjudicators Association, and Texas Choral Directors Association. The loves of his life are his Wife, Julianna, and children; Ryan (12), Maddison (9), and Samantha (7).
Assistant Director of Choirs
Heather Leal is excited to be returning to Klein Oak Choir Program for year three! Prior to Klein Oak, Mrs. Leal was at Dueitt Middle School in Spring ISD for 4 years. Mrs. Leal attended Sam Houston State University where she received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. While at SHSU, she was a member of The SHSU Chorale, the premiere ensemble, under the direction of Dr. James Franklin and had the privilege of studying Choral Education under Denise Eaton. Her professional affiliations include TMEA and TCDA. When Mrs. Leal isn’t teaching she enjoys traveling and attending concerts of all sorts with her husband, Steve. Mrs. Leal and her husband are proud parents of 4 fur babies; Smokey(dog), Elliott(cat), Rowdy(cat) & Leila(dog)
